he third edition of the international conference, "Contemporary Problems in the Criminal Procedure," has concluded. This highly significant student initiative garnered participation from esteemed Professors, Doctors, Masters of Legal Sciences, and students alike.
Organized by the Scientific Circle of Criminal Procedure at the Faculty of Law and Administration of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw, under the supervision of Professor Marcin Wielec, the event took place on November 20, 2023. The conference addressed incredibly interesting and current issues related directly or indirectly to criminal procedure, examining both Polish legislation and that of Central European countries.
The audience had the privilege of listening to distinguished speakers from abroad, including Prof. Dr. Davor Derenčinović (representing the European Court of Human Rights), who critically explored the aspects of ensuring a fair trial under the European Convention on Human Rights, particularly in criminal cases. Additionally, Prof. Marta Dragičević Prtenjača (representing the University of Zagreb) provided an in-depth analysis of the complexities associated with the statute of limitations in Croatian criminal law.
Throughout the conference, PhDs, Masters, and law students engaged in discussions on various topics, such as the growing use of AI-generated evidence in criminal proceedings, corporate responsibility in the context of human rights violations, the emerging challenge of telemedicine cybercrime in Polish criminal processes, and a comprehensive analysis of the role of Polish Crown witnesses.
