The conference is a dissemination event for Dr. Bartłomiej Oręziak, within the research group "Equality in an Ever-Integrating Europe" led by Professor Marcin Wielec, as part of the Central European Professors' Network Project.
As Europe continues to deepen its integration, the principle of equality remains a fundamental pillar of its legal framework and institutional structures. The conference, "Equality in an Ever-Integrating Europe: The View of Young Researchers", aims to provide a platform for emerging scholars to explore and discuss the evolving role of equality within the European Union.
During the event, discussions will likely revolve around the ways in which the principle of equality is enshrined in international and European legal standards and its implications for member states. Participants may delve into how equality manifests itself in the daily operations and institutional frameworks of the EU, analyzing how diverse legal and cultural traditions among member states coexist under a shared framework, even in the absence of completely uniform rules. The discussions may further extend to the implementation of equality in EU law, considering both its application and exceptions that may arise, particularly in the context of the EU's internal and external policies.
A key theme could be the interaction between member states' sovereignty and the principle of equality. This tension—balancing the preservation of national sovereignty with the pursuit of EU-wide equality—offers fertile ground for discussion, as it underscores the delicate interplay between collective integration and state autonomy.
This conference will give young researchers a unique opportunity to learn from experienced scholars who will share their expertise on these complex issues. At the same time, these emerging voices will have the chance to present their own ideas and research findings, enriching the dialogue on the future of equality in Europe. This exchange of perspectives is expected to enhance the overall discourse, offering fresh insights into the challenges and opportunities the EU faces.
Further debates might include the potential of the intergovernmental method in advancing EU integration, questioning whether this approach remains viable or has reached its limits. Alternative forms of participation within the EU framework could also be explored, examining how they impact equality among member and non-member states alike. Participants may also reflect on the balance between equality and the supremacy of EU law, particularly in light of new global challenges. Additionally, external examples could be considered as sources of inspiration to strengthen cooperation and equality within the EU.
This conference promises to be a valuable occasion for networking, exchanging ideas, and contributing to the ongoing dialogue surrounding European integration, equality, and member state sovereignty.
We warmly invite you to join us in what promises to be a stimulating and thought-provoking event!
